I STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT I


It is a fact that all concrete structures deteriorate with time with the only variable factor being the rate of deterioration. Deterioration can simply have an effect on appearance or be as dramatic as to raise concerns over structural integrity.

ALR Consulting Engineers identify and evaluates structural deterioration causes through visual inspection and study of any existing documentation. Study on such, would need designing the complete plan and comparing designs, the report would focus on findings from the existing design.

The accompanying report details observations and discusses the defect and its cause and suggests remedial work to rectify the problem. In some cases, further investigations may be required and this would be discussed within the report.

I Feasibility Study and Risk Assessment I


Before changing the mode of use, a building needs to be assessed for suitability of purpose.

After an initial survey the property owner or tenant may ask to assess the condition of an existing structure. Combined with visual assessment and study of existing building plans, the Structural Engineer would make recommendations for further steps.

Typically we, take instructions and read any relevant previous reports. Visit the site for visual inspection, take photos and notes as necessary. Report on the structural defects visible on the structure. Report our opinion on the causes of the structural defects. Recommend further testing that may be required e.g. bore hole tests, concrete tests in few cases. Recommend repair and other actions. If structure is found inadequate for additional loading, additional strengthening works would be recommended by a Structural Engineer.
